Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture
Terms of Appointment: 19th November 2013 to present
On November 19, 2013, Dr. Mohamed Shainee was sworn in as the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture.
He was born on February 15, 1976. Recently on October 10, 2013 he has completed his Doctorate from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway in Conceptual Design, Numerical and Experimental Investigation of a SPM Cage Concept for Offshore Mariculture. During this time in university he did his research, specialized in Structural Analysis. While carrying out the research worked in relation to PhD, his work load includes 25% work in delivering of lectures to master level course in Sustainable Utilization of Marine Resources.
Year 2009 for duration of 8 months he was appointed as the advisor to Minister in Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Maldives. His service as an advisor was focused in providing technical advice to the government on Fisheries and Marine Resources related issues.
In 2006, achieved his second Master’s degree from Dalhousie University, Canada from Marine Management and in his first Master’s degree was successfully completed in Norwegian University of Science and Technology of Norway from Marine Technology / Naval Architecture in January 2003. His Bachelor’s Degree from Marine Systems Technology from University of Plymouth, UK was completed in year 2000.
He helmed his position as a Managing Director of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited from year 2008 to 2009. During his services to the largest public company in the Maldives comprise of more than 1,500 employees from different countries includes the duties of planning and implementation of daily activates which was closely monitored and strengthened. Also his services were extended to Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources from year 2007 to 2008 as an Assistant Director General, from year 2006 to 2007 as a Deputy Director, from 2003 – 2005 as an Assistant Director, in year 2000 – 2001 as a Fisheries Research Officer and his career in started in year 1994 as of Assistant Project Officer till 1997.
